Norma Margaret Smillie, 88, of Mint Hill, NC, passed away peacefully on September 26, 2026, surrounded by her loving family. She will be remembered for her deep devotion to family, wonderful sense of humor, and gift for storytelling.
She is survived by her children, Barbara Guilfoyle (John), Thomas Bayer (June), and Dianne DeNino(Anthony); eight grandchildren, including Katherine, Colleen, John, Noreen, Meaghan, Sarah, and Christian; 11 great-grandchildren; and many other loving relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Ralph Smillie; her parents, Anna and Neil Cunningham and Christopher and Hannah Byrne; her daughter, Deirdre Kern; her brother, William Byrne; and her sister, Marianne Glassbrenner.
She will be deeply missed by her family and friends, but we find comfort in knowing how dearly she was loved and cherished by so many.
Visitation will be held at McEwen Funeral Service - Mint Hill Chapel on September 30, 2026, from 9:30-10:30 followed by a Celebration of Life memorial service at 10:30am.
