Oscar Moroe passed away at the White Oak Manor in Charlotte, NC on Friday, February 20, 2015 at the age of 83. Oscar is survived by his loving wife Olga of 50 years, his son, Michael; daughter-in-law, Sheri; granddaughter, Sasha; sister, Clara Alvarez; brother, Tony Lopez; nieces, Linda Lehmann and Kristen Lehmann; and loving nieces in New Jersey, New York, Arkansas, and South Carolina.
Although Linda Lehmann was Oscar's niece, she was like a daughter to him. During the sixteen months of his stay at the Nursing Home, she visited him every evening, fed him, cleaned him and got him ready for bed. Her constant presence and unwaivering devotion added to his comfort and well-being.
We would like to acknowledge the concern and friendship of our life-long friend Marguerite Martinez of Boca Raton, FL; and our dear friends Mabel Galloza, Octavio Santiago, Nicole Santiago, Isabel Santiago and Armando Galloza of Aguada, PR.
We would also like to thank the entire staff and administration of White Oak Manor for the care Oscar received. White Oak Manor became our second home and its staff our second family.
Oscar was born in Aguada, Puerto Rico in 1931 and moved to New York in 1950; he had a catering business in New Jersey and later he opened a restaurant in Puerto Rico. Oscar moved to Mint Hill, North Carolina in 2003 and enjoyed the pastoral environment of this area, where he became enthralled with the North Carolina Blue Bird. He was a Korean War Veteran and proud of being a Marine.
Besides gardening, Oscar enjoyed bird watching, cooking, dancing, watching cowboy and war movies and spending time with his family. In addition, he played a mean game of chess.
All of these remembrances would be remiss, if we did not mention the splendid people of Cornerstone Baptist Church, who sent cards, flowers, food and made phone calls during the two years of Oscar's illness. Each and everyone was always offering and ready to help at a moment's notice. Our heartfelt thanks from our family.
If that was not enough, we became blessed with Cindy and Greg Platko as our neighbors. God sent all of these angels to make our journey a little easier.
