Pat Marcone passed away Friday, February 8, 2019, at Novant Health Matthews Medical Center. She had been in declining health for several years, but had influenced many young lives. She was born May 19, 1932 in Greensboro, North Carolina.
Pat was a maverick in the 1960's and early ‘70s, creating her own in-home daycare for working moms in Greensboro, picking up kids at their homes in her van in the morning and bringing them back in the afternoon after a day of activities, play, and hot lunch. After moving to Charlotte, she then earned her Masters in Education at The University of North Carolina at Charlotte, and became an elementary school teacher at Highland Elementary for many years. She enjoyed singing and traveling with the Sweet Adelines and cultivated lasting friendships. Additional friends will remember her as an active member of a bowling team and part of a regular group of Bunco buddies. But her love was children, and enjoying time with her grandchildren was paramount, taking them to the beach, teaching them to swim at her pool, reading and just being with them.
The family will celebrate her life in a private gathering on an undetermined future date.
