

Paul Edward DeVries, 55, of Flowery Branch, GA, died March 31, 2017. He had been ill since February with an aggressive sarcoma on his right hip which metastasized to his lungs and kidneys. He was born February 10, 1962, in Detroit, MI.
After eight years in Lake Bluff, IL, Paul moved at age 9 with his family to Lancaster, SC, where he graduated from high school and attended USC-Lancaster and USC-Columbia. Prior to death, he worked as a manufacturing engineer for a plastics company.
He is survived by his parents, David and Jean DeVries of Charlotte, NC; special friend from high school and college, Brenda Mullins of Cumming, GA; his sister, Margaret of Raleigh, NC; brothers, David (Catherine) of Auburn, AL, Peter of Matthews, NC, Stephen (Jane) of Matthews, NC, Mark (Jill) of Taylorsville, NC, and Thomas of Cary, NC; four nieces, nine nephews, one grandniece, three uncles and their spouses, and eleven cousins.
Paul’s maternal and paternal grandparents and two cousins died before him.
A wake will be held from 7:00 until 9:00 pm Friday, April 7, at McEwen Funeral Service, Mint Hill Chapel, 7428 Matthews-Mint Hill Road in Mint Hill. A funeral service will be held 11 am Saturday, April 8, in the funeral home chapel. Friends are cordially invited to a reception immediately following the service at the funeral home, followed by the interment in Forest Lawn East Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, a donation to the Sarcoma Foundation of America, 9899 Main Street, Suite 204, Damascus, MD 20872, is suggested.
