

Born September 18, 1927, in Cabarrus County, North Carolina, Mrs. Helms was a daughter of Charlie Oscar Linker and Beatrice Watson Linker. She was a 1945 graduate of Fairview School.
Affectionately referred to as “Ms Pearl” by her adoring friends, she was the eldest member of Hopewell Baptist Church. She was also a member of the VFW Auxiliary and Order of the Eastern Star.
Ms Pearl enjoyed photography and traveling and loved spending time with her family. She will be remembered for her kind spirit and sense of humor.
Ms Pearl was preceded in death by her husband, Troy R. Helms; her mother, Beatrice Medice Linker Freeman; her father, Charlie Oscar Linker; her stepfather, J.E. Freeman; and her two sisters, Freida Stegall of Lancaster, South Carolina and Mae Atchley of Monroe, North Carolina.
She is survived by her children, Kelly Ray Helms and his wife, Connie Helms, of Johnson City, Tennessee, and Sandra Hartis of Charlotte, North Carolina; and grandchildren, Kathryn Hartis of Indian Trail, Kari Hartis of Charlotte, Christy Riddle and her husband, Russell Riddle, of Hampton, Tennessee, and Tony Helms and his wife, Wendy Helms, of Mount Carmel, Tennessee.
A visitation will be held Wednesday, April 30, 2025, from 3:00 pm to 5:00 pm, at Hopewell Baptist Church Legacy Campus, 420 Hopewell Church Road, Monroe, North Carolina 28110. A second visitation will be held Thursday, May 1, 2025, from 1:00 pm to 2:00 pm, at Hopewell Baptist Church Legacy Campus, followed by a 2:00 pm funeral service. Interment will follow in Zion Methodist Church Cemetery, 1521 Old Fish Road, Monroe, North Carolina 28110.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hopewell Baptist Church, 420 Hopewell Church Road, Monroe, North Carolina 28110.
