Robert “Bob” Harold Bryant, Sr., 82, of Waxhaw, NC passed away on March 31, 2014. He was born in Rockingham, NC; the son of John Floyd and Margaret Marie Bryant, who predeceased him. He was also predeceased by his brother, Carl.

He graduated from Charlotte Technical High School in 1949. He then served in the U.S. Naval Reserves and the U.S. Army during the Korean War (1951-1953). He played trombone and sang in the Army band, performing for Generals and visiting dignitaries. He was the Advertising Director for Southern Bearings & Parts (1955-1975) and retired from K-Mart Corp. as the Electronics Manager in 1993.

Robert was married to his lifelong sweetheart, Doris, on July 3rd, 1954. They would have celebrated their 60th anniversary this year. Their love was the foundation for a family whose love is widely known by all who knew him.

His favorite hobbies were traveling, reading and movies. He traveled extensively in Europe and the United States, and also went cruising to several Caribbean destinations and Mexico. At different times, he and Doris were joined on their European adventures by all of their children. More than anything, he loved getting together with family. A storyteller by nature, he always kept the crowd laughing.

With a deep and abiding love for the Lord, he was a former deacon at First Baptist Church of Matthews. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to First Baptist Church of Matthews.

In addition to his wife, Doris, Robert is survived by his daughters, Lynn Pope, Michele (Jack) McGuire and three sons, Robert Jr. (Melanie), John and David (Elizabeth). He has seven grandchildren and two great grandchildren, plus one who will join the family this month.

A servant to God, a hero to his family and a friend to everyone he ever met; Robert lived his life filled with love, faith and laughter.

To Mrs. Bryant, Lynn and family, although I never knew or met your Dad that I recall Lynn, just knowing you and who you are and how you speak of your family, that he was a very good man. Blessings to all of you. Your love speaks loudly.

My uncle Robert was a wonderful "second" dad to me when I was a little girl. He and Doris took me on vacations with them before they had any children of their own. Robert had an unusual voice and laugh. I loved to listen to him talk and tell stories. I also loved his home perked coffee and vienna finger cookies. I remember eating breakfast there on the weekends with Doris's silver dollar pancakes. Lots of great memories of this man. The family included me when I was grown too and I loved being part of their celebrations. A wonderful man who will be missed by many, now walks with his Savior. Love him
