Born in Newton, North Carolina in 1940, his family moved to Silver Spring, Maryland when he was 5 years old. While in junior high school, at age 15, he met and fell in love with Betsy Martin. They married 5 years later and just celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary this past April. After proudly serving his country in the Air Force, he became Supervisor of Office Equipment for the U.S House of Representatives until his retirement at age 55.
Lamar and Betsy moved to Brevard, North Carolina where they enjoyed Blue Ridge Mountain living. He loved playing golf, taking care of his yard and garden, feeding the birds, playing cards with family and watching The Price is Right every day at 11am. Lamar had a quiet strength, enjoyed a good belly laugh, and was truly devoted to his family. We will be forever grateful.
He is survived by his wife, Betsy, his children Eric and his wife Rebecca, Darlene and her husband Will and his 5 grandchildren, Kevin, Megan, Erika, Andrew and Peter. He is also survived by his brother Tony, sister Martha Bell , brothers-in-law, Bob Martin and partner Linda, and Billy and wife Sherri. Lamar is predeceased by his parents, Adrian and Lucille, and his brothers Sydney and David and brother-in-law, Martin Bell.
There are no services scheduled at this time. A celebration of Lamar’s life is being planned for the Fall.
