Born in Allentown, Pennsylvania, on April 28, 1936, Ron was the only child of Wilbur Edward and Mildred Ritter Sperlbaum. In 1949, the family moved to Rutherfordton, North Carolina, where his father opened and managed a mill.
Ron graduated from Rutherford-Spindale Central High School and began his college education at UNC-Chapel Hill. After two years, he proudly served his country in the military for two years before completing his Bachelor of Arts degree at Wofford College.
Ron dedicated 25 years of his professional life to the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency as a National Bank Examiner. After retiring, he continued to share his expertise with NCNB and Rock Hill National Bank (later NationsBank), and later with The Risk Management Group where he worked for 15 years.
A man of deep faith and community involvement, Ron was a member of Morning Star Lutheran Church. He was also active in several fraternal organizations, including the Mint Hill Masonic Lodge #742, Charlotte Valley of the Scottish Rite, Amran Temple Shriners, and Mint Hill Order of the Eastern Star #353.
Ron is survived by his devoted wife, Della Troutman Sperlbaum; a loving niece, Jane Cecil and her husband, Allan; and numerous nieces and nephews. He will be remembered for his loyalty, kindness, and sense of humor—qualities that touched the lives of all who knew him.
