

Salvatore Vaccaro, of Harrisburg, NC, born July 27, 1950 in Hartford, CT, died Sunday, December 11th, 2016, after a long and valiant battle with chronic illness at Presbyterian Medical Center, Charlotte, NC.
Sal was a generous and loving husband to Gail Vaccaro for over 45 years, and the proud father of two boys, Michael and Joseph. Sal had the mind of an engineer and the heart of an artist, always creating through his many hobbies including stained glass, pottery, and woodworking. He was generous with his art, as well as sharing many a song or his quick wit.
Sal was preceded in death by his parents, Irma Russell and Joseph Vaccaro, and a sister, Janice Winsor.
In addition to his wife and sons, Sal is survived by a sister, Joanne Waterman; four grandchildren, Ella, Andrew, Nolan, and Camryn Vaccaro; and daughters-in-law, Marian and MaryAnn Vaccaro. In addition, Sal had a close knit family including father-in-law, Burton Jenkins; brother-in-law, Richard Jenkins; and several special nieces and nephews.
Sal’s journey was difficult. However, along the way there were many people who supported him. The family would like to thank the physicians and nurses who cared for Sal in his many visits to Presbyterian Medical Center. The teams there were extraordinary with their care and compassion. The family would also like to thank the team and physicians at Metrolina Nephrology for their years of care and support.
The family will receive friends Friday afternoon, December 16th, from 3-6 pm, at McEwen Funeral Service, Mint Hill Chapel. The family plans to celebrate Sal’s life at a later date in a private event with family and friends.
