Sandra Thompson Frye, age 83, passed away peacefully on June 21, 2025, leaving behind a legacy of kindness, humility, and trailblazing courage. Born on October 29, 1941, Sandra graduated from Garinger High School in 1960 and went on to make her mark in both her professional and personal life with quiet strength and unwavering determination.
A longtime member of Matthews United Methodist Church since the early 80’s and she found joy in serving others weekly at Tasty Tuesdays, which is a catered meal provided by the church where members of the community can fellowship together. She took pride in being part of the duo that decorated each week. When not busy with church and family, she could be found dancing the night away with the Belles & Beaus Square Dance Club or traveling with her spouse and friends. Sandra was deeply rooted in her community and cherished the friendships she nurtured over the years.
Sandra began her career as a draftsman at Bell South, formerly known as SouthernBell, and in doing so, shattered long-standing barriers by becoming the first female engineer at the company. Her career was a testament to her belief that goals should never be limited by gender, and she served as a role model to generations of women who followed.
She will be most remembered for her deep, unwavering love for her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Her warmth, wisdom, and grace touched everyone fortunate enough to know her. Sandra’s presence lit up every room, and her legacy of love, perseverance, and compassion will live on through the family she cherished so deeply.
Her love wasn't loud or boastful. It was constant, steady, and present in every moment, big and small. Her heart was endlessly generous. She gave her family the kind of love that builds confidence, shapes character, and lasts a lifetime. She celebrated every milestone, soothed every sorrow and filled everyone's lives with laughter and unforgettable memories. Her legacy lives on in the family she nurtured.
Sandra's love for the Lord was the cornerstone of her life. She did not need to preach loudly; her life was her testimony. Through every trial and every triumph, she leaned on God. She loved like Christ did; gently, generously, and without condition.
She is survived by her children, Wes Frye (Laura) of Marvin, NC, Greg Frye (Mary) of Charlotte, NC, and Jenifer Dills (Mitchell) of Charlotte, NC; grandchildren, Zachary Frye (Rachel), Justin Frye (Caitlin Dubay), Will Frye, Emily Frye, Thompson Frye, Graham Frye, Bryson Dills and Sawyer Dills; great- grandchildren, Eliza and Hayden Frye; and sister, Karen Thompson of Charlotte, NC.
