Mrs. Shelly Starnes

December 25th, 1964 – June 10th, 2026

After a long battle with cancer, Shelly passed away peacefully at home while surrounded by family. She fought as long and as hard as anyone could fight, and she exemplified courage, grace, and faith throughout.

She was a wife, a mother of four, a daughter, a sister, and an aunt. She was a friend, an ally, a supporter, and a confidant. Her calling was neo-natal intensive care nursing. Even her career choice was informed by her seemingly endless caring and giving. She had a wry sense of humor but always looked for the good in people and circumstances. She was determined, tenacious; she never gave up – even when causes seemed lost. Her faith and her family sustained her.

She was preceded in death by her father, Max Price; her maternal grandparents, Lillie and JW Bass; and her paternal grandparents Ruby and Zeb Price.

She is survived by her husband, Jim Starnes; children, JD, Noah, Caroline, and Sam Starnes; mother, Carolyn Price; siblings, Jeff (Dawn), Karen (Lance), and Mike Price (Christy); nieces, Jada Price and Anna Starnes; mother-in-law, Becky Starnes; brother-in-law, Rusty (Susan) and countless other family and friends that will love and miss her always.

A visitation will be held on Sunday, June 14, 2026, from 2:00 pm until 3:00 pm at McEwen Funeral Home of Monroe, located at 204 South Main Street, Monroe, North Carolina. A funeral service to celebrate Shelly’s life will be held following the visitation at 3:00 pm in the McEwen Colonial Chapel with Pastor Jeff Whitecotton officiating. Burial will then follow immediately after the service at Lakeland Memorial Park.
