Steven Walter Lowery, age 70, passed away on Friday April, 18th 2025 in Morganton, NC. He was born on March 6th, 1955. His parents are the late J. Leroy “Roy” Lowery and Eva Walters Lowery of Charlotte, NC.
Though miles often lay between them, their love for Steve knew no distance.
Steve lived with intellectual challenges, but those challenges never defined his spirit. What did define him was his bright smile, pure heart, and the joy he brought to those blessed enough to truly know him.
Steve resided in the J. Iverson Riddle Developmental Center, where he was surrounded by a dedicated and caring community. Though we couldn’t always be near, Steve remained close in our hearts — cherished in memory, celebrated in stories, and felt in quiet moments of love.
Steve is survived by many Aunts, Uncles and Cousins, who will carry forward his gentle legacy. We are endlessly grateful to the caregivers and friends who made his days brighter, who understood Steve, and who loved him for exactly who he was.
After his parents’ deaths, guardians who continued to love and care for Steve were his cousins, Jerry and Peggy Funderburk and later, Melvin and Troyanne Funderburk. Always helpful and loving in his latter days was his cousin, Michelle Funderburk Snyder.
The family would like to thank Steve’s extended family and loved ones at J. Iverson Riddle Developmental Center in Morganton, NC, for their endless love and care.
A graveside service will be held on Friday April 25th 2025, 3:00 pm at Sharon Memorial Park (5716 Monroe Road, Charlotte NC 28212.)
Even from afar, Steve touched our lives with a rare kind of love — simple, sincere, and unforgettable.
Rest gently, Steve. We love you.
