Thomas Joe Byrum, Jr., "Tommy" aka TB, 72, passed away after a brief illness on Feb. 21, 2014. Tommy was born on March 1, 1941, in Charlotte to Thomas Joe Byrum and Laura Bell Kennerley Byrum. Tommy graduated from Harding High School in 1959 where he played sports. Following high school, Tommy enlisted in the US Air Force serving at Tinker Air Force Base in Oklahoma and subsequently in Vietnam. Tommy worked for the Radisson Plaza and Omni Hotel in Charlotte and retired from First Citizens Bank in 2011. Tommy enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, and "Shop night" with the guys. He was an avid sports fan, followed the Panthers and also enjoyed ACC basketball. Tommy was preceded in death by his mother, his father, and his sister Dixie Suzanne Gunter. He is survived by his son Thomas Joe Byrum, III "Tripp" of Arizona. He will be greatly missed by his best friends Dave and Gayle Poole, the "shop night" guys, the "pottery girls", his Harding High classmates and many other friends and colleagues. Visitation will be Thursday, Feb. 27, 2014 at 2:00 pm at McEwen Chapel and the service will be at 3:00 pm. Burial will be held in Salisbury National Cemetery on Friday, Feb. 28, 2014 at 11 a.m. Arrangements are by McEwen Funeral Service - Mint Hill Chapel. 704.545.4864 www.mcewenminthillchapel.com
