He was born on October 6, 1926 in Pineville, NC to the late Julis and Mary Kate Crump Smith. He was one of fourteen children.
Mr. Smith served in the Army in Germany during WWII. He retired as a Detective with Mecklenburg County Police Department. After retiring, he worked with Hendrick Automotive, continued staying connected with family and friends, and was an avid gardener. But most of all, Tommy was a people-person. He was loved by everyone that knew him.
Mr. Smith is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Jane and Malcolm Ferguson and numerous nieces and nephews. Tommy leaves behind several close friends, including his best friends Richard Broome and Joe Taylor.
A visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Friday, May 25, 2018 at McEwen Funeral Service-Mint Hill Chapel, 7428 Matthews-Mint Hill Road, Mint Hill, NC 28227.
A memorial service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, May 26, 2018 at McEwen Funeral Service-Mint Hill Chapel.
