Valerie Elizabeth Dine, age 66, passed away on June 18, 2026. Born on June 13, 1960, in Cleveland, Ohio, Valerie’s life was marked by steady devotion to others, quiet strength, and a spirit of care that touched family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing her.
Valerie attended Lutheran High East in Michigan, and went on to receive her LPN from St. Clair Community College in 1979. From the beginning, she pursued a path rooted in service—one that reflected both her diligence and her deep regard for the well-being of others.
As a Licensed Practical Nurse, Valerie brought a dependable work ethic and a calm resilience to her vocation. Her compassion was not simply a quality she possessed, but a way she moved through the world—steadfast, considerate, and attentive to the needs of those around her.
Outside of work, Valerie found her greatest joy in spending time with her grandkids, cherishing the moments that became lasting memories. She also loved going to the beach, where the simple peace of the shoreline suited her gentle nature, and she valued the time spent with her friends, offering warmth, loyalty, and a listening ear.
Valerie was a member of Shiloh Baptist Church, where her faith and her generous spirit were part of her daily life. She will be remembered for her big heart and giving soul, and for the enduring example she set through kindness, perseverance, and care for others.
Valerie is survived by her children, Lynn (Billy) Gilman and Jacob Dine, grandchildren, Jared and Ashley Gilman, siblings, Patricia (Robert) Catterfeld, Norma (HB) Calder and Jim (Monica) Breitkreitz, and loved nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her parents, Carl and Elizabeth Breitkreitz and former husband, Jack Dine.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Wednesday, June 24th, 2026 at 1:00pm at McEwen Funeral Service - Mint Hill Chapel 7428 Matthews Mint Hill Rd Mint Hill, NC 28227 with a reception immediately following.
