Velma Louise Clodfelter Mullis, age 85, of Mint Hill, NC, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her loving family on April 17, 2018. Velma was born in Iredell County, NC on January 13, 1933, the daughter of the late Clayton Leonard Clodfelter and Grace Ayers Clodfelter. She studied at Kings Business College in the early 1950s and then married her loving husband of 64 years, Wilburn Gene Mullis, in June 1953. She spent the next twenty five years as a caring and loving mother and home-maker. Starting in the mid 1970’s, she enjoyed a career in accounting and business administration. She retired in 2008 after many years of dedicated service.
She is survived by her five children and their spouses; Duane & Sandra Mullis of Monroe, NC, Anthony & Shirley Mullis of Unionville, NC, Cynthia Porter of Mint Hill, NC, Stephen Mullis of Charlotte, NC, and Cathy & Billy Hawkins of Matthews, NC.
She is also survived by eight grandchildren and seven great grandchildren as well as nieces and nephews.
Velma was preceded in death by her husband, Wilburn Gene Mullis; and brothers James Clayton Clodfelter and Howard Leonard Clodfelter, both of Statesville, NC.
Her sweet, precious spirit, loving nature, and Christian faith made her the consummate mother and spouse. She was loved and admired by the entire family and all her friends. Nothing made her happier than being with her family. She enjoyed cooking and sewing and occasional journeys to all parts of the world with her family.
She was a member of Hickory Grove Baptist Church and the Unity Sunday School class.
The family will be receiving friends and family at McEwen Funeral Service-Mint Hill Chapel, 7428 Matthews-Mint Hill Road, Mint Hill, NC on Friday, April 20 from 7:00 to 9:00 PM.
The funeral is Saturday, April 21 at 12:00 PM at Hickory Grove Baptist Church, 7200 E WT Harris Blvd., Charlotte, NC 28262.
Interment will follow at Sunset Memory Gardens in Mint Hill, NC.
