

Vera Preslar Tweed, 82, of Mint Hill, formerly of Polkton, passed away peacefully Sunday afternoon January 5th. She was a loving mother, grandmother, sister and friend that always wanted the best for everyone. Originally trained as a hair stylist, she worked with her sister Rose until she met her husband Dan and enjoyed 58 years of marriage and raised 3 children. She returned to school receiving her Early Childhood Aide Certificate and worked at Bain Elementary for over 30 years. She always loved being with children. During this time she also enjoyed selling Avon and visiting with all of her friends and acquaintances. She was a woman of strong faith and prayer and an active member of Philadelphia Presbyterian Church.
She loved family events, her flower gardens, baking sourdough bread, watching the birds at her feeders and looking after her cat. Having played on her high school basketball team, she always enjoyed watching a good game.
She is survived by her children and their families: Brenda and Larry Sorkin; Dan, Kathleen and granddaughter Sarah Tweed; and Charles Tweed as well as three sisters and their families: Rose McWhirter, Pearl Rushing and Betty Yandle; two brothers and their families: Ray Preslar and Grover Preslar and her husband’s brother, MacDonald Tweed and his family.
Visitation and a service to celebrate her life will be on Friday, January 10, 2014 at Philadelphia Presbyterian Church. The visitation will be at 10:00 am in the church rotunda and the service will be at 11:00 am. Burial will follow at Sunset Memory Gardens.
