Born in Poland on July 1, 1948, Walter was the son of Ukrainian immigrants and grew up in a large, close-knit family whose values of hard work, faith, perseverance, and devotion to family shaped the man he became. Throughout his life, Walter was known for his strong work ethic, quiet determination, and unwavering commitment to those he loved.
Above all else, Walter was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend. Family was the center of his world. He took great pride in providing for his family and found his greatest joy in spending time with them. Whether attending sporting events, school activities, family dinners, celebrations, or simply enjoying time together, Walter believed in being present. He never missed an opportunity to support and encourage the people he loved.
In recent years, Walter and his beloved wife, Linda, relocated to North Carolina to be closer to their family. The move allowed him to spend even more treasured time with his children and grandchildren, creating memories that will be cherished for generations.
Despite facing significant health challenges for more than fifteen years, Walter approached life with remarkable strength, resilience, and determination. His courage inspired those around him, and he continued to focus on what mattered most—his family, his friendships, and the relationships he built throughout his life.
Walter is survived by his loving wife, Linda Dabrowny; his daughters and sons-in-law, Lisa and Roger Modispaugh and Jaimee and Brandon Padgett; and his cherished grandchildren, Ethan Modispaugh, Katelyn Modispaugh, Jonathan Padgett, and Lauren Padgett.
He is also survived by his siblings and their spouses: Michael and Olga Dabrowny, Olga Pawuk and Walter Kushnir, Janine Kozela, and Edward and Lillian Dabrowny, along with many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends.
Walter will be remembered for his kindness, strength, loyalty, sense of humor, and the love he gave so freely to those around him. His legacy lives on in the family he cherished, the values he instilled, and the countless lives he touched throughout his journey.
He will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered always.
A funeral mass will be held on Wednesday, June 17, 2026, at 11:00 am, at St. Luke Catholic Church, located at 9800 Fairview Rd., Mint Hill, North Carolina. Burial will follow immediately after at Sunset Memory Gardens.
