Wilma Lee Floyd McLelland, ninety-nine years-of-age, of Midland, NC; formerly of Clinton, MS, went to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, Sunday, March 29, 2020 at 11:20 p.m. Wilma Lee was born in Magee, MS on July 5, 1920. She was the devoted wife of the late Reverend William Calvin McLelland and is survived by her two loving children, O’Lynda Lee McLelland Walker (Denver) of Midland, NC and William Calvin McLelland II (Martha) of Pearl, MS.
Wilma Lee enjoyed the humble pleasure of gardening and was known for the quality of the blossoms and produce that flourished under her care. Wilma also loved to paint flowers and landscapes. Wilma never let age stop her from adventures that were rare earlier in life. In her eighties and early nineties she joined Fitness for Her and had a personal trainer. She enjoyed horseback riding. Since snow in MS was rare, Wilma enjoyed the chance to sled with her daughter and made snow angels with great grand daughter, Mikayla. At 95, son-in-law, Denver, helped her climb the ladder of a deer stand to perch at the top to enjoy the fall landscape. She was known for her love of her Lord Jesus Christ, her generosity, and her selflessness serving those who had the privilege of meeting her. The contentment and enjoyment Wilma found in simple things continues to be an example and challenge of how to lead a rich and fulfilling life.
Wilma Lee was the daughter of Charles Wilson Floyd and Dona Cone Floyd of Edwards, MS. She graduated from Flora High School and attended Millsaps College in Jackson, MS as a music and voice major. It was here that she met and later married William McLelland of Hattiesburg, MS on June 4, 1941 at her old home place in Flora, MS. During WW II, the young couple served churches in Maine and New Jersey while Bill attended and graduated from Drew University. This was the beginning of fifty-four years of service to the Lord in the central MS Methodist Conference as shepherds to the flock that God gave them.
Later in life, Wilma resided with her daughter O’Lynda Lee and husband, Denver Walker in Midland, NC. During her short illness was attended by loving caregiver, Maria Britt.
Wilma is preceded in death by her husband of fifty-four years, William C. McLelland; parents Charles Wilson and Dona Cone Floyd; brothers R. E. Floyd, Charles Curtis Floyd of Edwards, MS and Lomax Floyd of Jackson, MS; and great grandson Julian Alexander Barron of Kannapolis, NC.
