Dear Donna, Steve, Brandon & McKensie, So many of us in Bucks County still have memories of your lovely family. That Alec grew up to be such a kind young man comes as no surprise. Your bonds as a family of faith and his legacy will take on new meaning over time. Please know that many of us from the NFS community are holding you in the light during this thoughtful time. There are so many ways to be missed and you are all in prayers. In Peace, Sue, Ed & Lianna (former classmate) Jasiewicz

Dear De Jong Family,
I only had the pleasure of meeting Alec for an hour, and he made a positive impact on me in that one hour. I interviewed him for an internship, this summer, with our company. I could tell instantly that he was an intelligent, well-liked, outgoing, positive young man. We had a great conversation with him, and really enjoyed getting to know him. I am very sorry for your loss. We will be praying for you and your family.

Dear De Jong Family - I did not know Alec, but my son Ben met Alec in the fall of 2015. I think they were both living at Mauldin Hall while at Clemson. Ben shared with us the news of the accident. We are all so saddened by this. Ben spoke so highly of both your sons and really enjoyed knowing them. Ben attended the Grace Powdersville service and said it was very moving and uplifiting. After reading the obituary I know this world benefited from Alec's life. I only wished he had more time here to be the light of Christ. There is so much to rejoice in that Alec accomplished while walking here on Earth, but you know he is rejoicing in Heaven with his Savior. Our family is thinking of you and praying for you at this time. God bless you all. Grayson, Laurie, Gray and Ben Thomas.

The number of times I would come downstairs in my home and find Alec, holding a milkshake from Cookout was about a hundred. He always said "Hey Ms. Baltes" and would always leave saying "thanks for having me"...as if it was any trouble at all! What a smile that excellent young man had! I will miss his laugh and his PRESENCE and his tenacity in keeping friendships and relationships alive. May your family experience peace and comfort in the years ahead.
My love to you, dear sweet DeJong family,
Kristin Baltes

Never did I run into Alec, when he did not stop, give me a hug and catch up on things. The last time I saw him was at ACAC and he was on break. He was smiling, of course, gave me a hug and I caught up on his life at Clemson. He then asked about each of our youngest 3 children and genuinely wanted to know how Ian, Molly and Michael were and what they were doing. I walked away from him that day thinking, "What an absolutely great young man." Alec was so full of life and joy and as so many know, his inner joy and his smile were contagious. He touched many, many people in big and small ways. I imagine Alec went through each day spreading his joy to those he met along the way, leaving each one with a smile on his/her face. Our hearts break for you all and we will keep each of you in our prayers.

I am so thankful to have known Alec. I grew up in Charlottesville with him but also attended Clemson with him. I was lucky enough to have a long conversation with Alec just a week ago in the library as we both tried to avoid studying for finals. We got to talk about all of his sweet Charlottesville guy friends and how they are doing and reminisced on our high school days. He laughed about how us public school girls would start to hang out with the covenant boys around prom time so that we could go to two proms and he bragged about how covenant always had the best proms. He told me how excited he was to live in the blue house with other young life leaders next year. We talked about how we would be graduating next December together and it breaks my heart knowing he won't walk across that stage with me. I cannot stop thinking about and praying for Brandon and the rest of the family. Alec was such a light to the world and the number of lives he has touched is uncountable. This world will not be the same without his bright smile and warm hugs but I am anxious to see how the Lords plan will prevail.

My son Ryan played basketball with Alec and Brandon for one year in the YMCA league when they were elementary school age. Ryan was looking for a team to play on and he was placed on Alec and Brandon's team and they really made him feel welcome and Ryan really enjoyed playing on that team. Like Hope Wood's post below I will always remember Alec's infectious smile and his love for sports and the way he supported his teammates. My heart goes out to Brandon and his family during this time and the days to come. My thoughts and prayers are with Brandon and his family during this unbelievably difficult time. I cannot imagine what you all are going thru right now.

I met Alec within the first few days of my freshman year of college at Clemson. He, along with another guy that I had not met before, were standing outside of Shilleter dining hall waiting for the group that I was tagging along with, some of who had talked to Alec about walking downtown together for the welcome back festival. We were all clueless freshmen just trying to make new friends and beyond excited to have a group to walk to the welcome back festival with, but I will always remember how kind and intentional Alec was that day that I met him. Prayers to his friends and family as I know he will be missed dearly

Alec was a roommate at Clemson to my son Dylan Long, his freshman year. The Long family was very fortunate to get to meet Alec, Brandon, and the Dejong family the day both boys moved into their dorm. It is with great sympathy that we express our grief and unbelief at his passing. We continue to pray for Brandon to recover fully and for the Lord to heal him. We also pray for strength, understanding, and the Lord's healing for each of the Dejong family at this difficult time.

Alec was our son and daughter's coach at ACAC swim team. Alec was so great with the little kids. He especially took a shine to our young son, Cormac, who is 5. I remember Alec in the pool with Cormac clinging to him and thinking to myself how easily and comfortably Alec handled even the tough cases. We are terribly sorry for your lost. We are sending prayers to your family and friends.

My daughter, Hayley, is a Clemson friend of Alec and Brandon. Our family and community are deeply saddened by your great loss. The impact of both Alec and Brandon was seen in the 100+ friends that gathered at Grace Church Powdersville yesterday afternoon. Not only their Clemson friends attended, but many high school students from Young Life. It was so moving to see how Alec and Brandon had touched so many lives. May God provide you with strength and peace in the days ahead.
