She was born on March 27, 1947, in Jackson, Tennessee, to the late William and Genevieve Joyce. Barbara devoted more than 30 years of her life to education, teaching school in Memphis and Chattanooga, where she touched countless lives with her patience, kindness, and dedication to her students.
Barbara was a member of Christ United Methodist Church, where she found great joy in her community and her faith.
She is survived by her loving children, Wendy Carlton and Rusty Carlton (Jennifer); her cherished grandchildren, Ally Carlton and Luke Carlton; and her sister, Jan Lee (Doug).
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her beloved husband, James Wayne Carlton.
Barbara will be remembered for her gentle spirit, her commitment to her family, and her lifelong passion for Memphis Tigers basketball. Her legacy lives on in the many lives she influenced and the family she loved so dearly.
Graveside services will be 10:00 am Friday, April 10 at Chattanooga National Cemetery.
