Skip and I went through boot camp together at Great Lakes in 1967.  Both of us were from Tennessee and went through that time as buddies. I will always remember his laugh and he was a fun loving guy. We went out separate ways in the navy. I would travel through Chattanooga on my way back and forth from Nashville to Atlanta after I was discharged and I was going to college. I often wondered about how to contact Skip and wish I had been able to visit after we got out of the navy.  I found his obituary through LinkedIn when I was motivated to contact him after I was looking at a picture of our boot camp company.  We shared a small part of our lives together but our friendship helped get us through those three months of basic training. Rest in peace good buddy and I am so sorry I didn't get a chance to share a beer and a few laughs.

Was so very sorry to hear about Skip‘s passing. He was kind and thoughtful and a terrific dancer. I so enjoyed dancing with him in the gym at the old Notre Dame. It was such a pleasure having known this wonderful man.

My earliest memories of Skip is when we were at Notre Dame together, he was in High School (upper level) and I was in Grade School (lower level).  We were in the Scouts together and both our Moms were Den Leaders, Skip in his brown Boy Scout uniform and me in my blue Cub Scout uniform.  I still have a picture from a newspaper clipping of our troop - somewhere - taken in the old Knights of Columbus Council 610 building that stood across the street form Sts. Peter & Paul.  Fast forward to when he was Post Master at the Harrison Post Office, that's where I do all my shopping for stamps.  No, Skip and I never "hung out together" during all those years, but we did see each other from time to time and there are two things I will always remember about Skip.  One was how he helped me and my Mom just before her passing, the other was his smile.  I don't believe I ever saw Skip when he wasn't smiling.  Yes, we've lost a friend, a family member, a companion, but God has added a bright star to His heavens.

Wayne and I are so sorry to hear of Skips passing. He was so kind and took great care of our animals at the Pet Care Kennel. He truly loved life. Y’all are in our thoughts and prayers

Dear Jerry,  Linda, Rosie, Scotty and Family,

May I extent my sincerest sympathy to you at this time of Skip's passing. I find myself painfully lacking to convey how much his life and friendship meant. It eludes me of precisely when I came to know him. He constantly extended goodwill without reserve or judgement. It was as if we had always been acquainted.  I can attest that he demonstrated the same accord to everyone when I was in his presence. Always expressing enjoyment to see you or anyone he knew.  Skip possesed a quiet yet enthusiastic joyful demeanor, confidence of his ability, integrity, dignity, straightforwardness and compassion. He never changed throughout the almost 60 years I knew him.  Sadly  I can enumerate on one hand the individuals who retained these extraordinary qualities throughout their lifetime. He simply made one happy to see him again.  I have lost three of these wonderful lives in little over one year. Each time a blessed part of my youth departed with them.  I want you to know I love you all as I loved Skip. It would have been a privilege merely to have made his acquaintance, it is a lifelong honor to have been his friend.

All those years at the post office, working together, I often wondered how he knew so much about so many different things. He was always happy and a friend to everyone. Jerry be strong and know you were loved. 

Skip was special to everyone.  I have many good memories of him throughout our 12 years in school.  One memory stands out.

In about the sixth grade, our coach wanted the boys to box in the gym.  He matched us by size which put Skip and me together.  The gloves were so large and heavy, I had trouble lifting them.  Skip was more adept and he worked me over pretty well.

Skip,was like a big brother to us growing up he was friends with my brothers Tommy and Bill we all loved him very much linda I am sorry l grew up loving you Dutch and skip yal were always part of our family  love to his family


Skipper and I went to Norte Dame together and spent a lot of time at Camp Columbus water skiing. He was delightful, always friendly  and a risk taker. Many a time he raised my eyebrows with his antics like driving the car and turning back to look and talk to us backseaters.

Will miss his smile. Condolences to Lynda.

I went through high school with Skip. He has a good-natured spirit about him. It was always a joy to be around him. He is in good hands with the Lord.

Skip was always smiling and he was a delight to be around! I am so sad for Lynda and the rest of his family.  I know he will be  missed terribly. Rest In Peace, Skip! Celie

Thank you Uncle Skip for the memories, the experiences, and the kind words over the years.  You have been my uncle for 51 years and I have enjoyed every one.  Just find you a nice place on a heavenly beach and enjoy the tranquility and peace.

What can I say about my Uncle Skip? There are not enough words in this world! There are too many memories to share. All I can say is he was always there. He was there for every holiday, every celebration and every heartache. He was the constant male role model in my life. 

He absolutley made my childhood and my teenage years the most memorable. We had so much fun in PCB! He let me and my best friend have so much fun!! But he always made sure we were safe at the same time.

He knew everyone and EVERYONE knew him. We could not go anywhere without people stopping to speak to him. He was so full of love and life for people. 

He is going to be missed. I am so grateful that I got to be his niece. 

So sorry to hear of Skips passing. Enjoyed seeing he and Jerry at  our 50 yr  class reunion.  May he Rest In Peace and may God comfort you, Jerry and family!!
