When I was in middle school, Darrell stayed with us in Indiana for a while. He was funny, kind, and loveable. I remember many mornings when I would wait for the school bus, and he would wait outside with me. He always asked if I had studied and done my homework. He would tell me to make sure I listened in class because what my teachers were saying was important. His last words were always, "Be good now." It was like having another brother around. My favorite memory, though, is the time I took the heat for him. He was in trouble with his Aunt Sherry for something. I just remember her being quite irritated with him this day for whatever reason. She came through the living room while we were all watching tv and spotted her fingernail clippers on the coffee table. My mom was raised by Aunt Mabel, so the house was clean and everything had a place. The coffee table was not the place for her fingernail clippers. Darrell had done it, and I knew he was about to get it. She wasn't mad at me, so I knew it wouldn't be so bad if I said I did it. So I took the heat for him and said it was me. (Sorry Mom!) She didn't say anything. Just gave that "look" all the sisters have, took the clippers, and left the room. Darrell and I gave each other a little grin, and he winked at me. We were family. That's the effect Darrell had on people. No matter what, you just couldn't help but love him. Rest in Heaven my cousin, my brother. But when I get there, I'm telling Jesus you were the one that left the clippers out!

  I met Darrell about four years ago, sitting on my back porch watching him gathering metal, something told me to take him a cold Coke, From that moment I had a friend. Rest In Peace My Dear Friend. Mr. Hubert & Mrs. Darline

The moment that you left us, my heart was split in two; one side was filled with memories; the other side died with you. I often lay awake at night when the world is fast asleep; and take a walk down memory lane with tears upon my check. Remembering you is easy, I do it everyday; but missing you is a heartache that never goes away. I hold you tightly within my heart and there you will remain; you see life has gone on without you, but will never be the same.
