I cannot remember when Ruth was not my friend. As a neighbor up the road on Lookout Mtn, she was a patient almost 'older sister' during my first 18yrs...until I left home for university, & she to marry. We made playhouses in the woods, ran through the yard sprinkler, swam, played Slap Jack & Monopoly for hours, hiked, climbed boulders, went to the Lookout Mtn Common, attended church together, & much more. She & Charles, her husband to be, even took me on a date with them once!

She had many talents & virtues, which I hope I've retained somehow. Always kind, truthful, fair, intelligent, capable, articulate, goal oriented, ETC! - not to mention beautiful with that red curly hair & trim figure. I envied her sense of style, too.

We missed most of our adult years together, both leaving Chattanooga for a time, exchanging cards now & then. I regret the years apart but know she became the consummate wife, mother, & professional woman. She & her fine husband, Charles, gladly welcomed me back home in 1990, sharing quality time as possible & introducing me to their family.

We both experienced health issues eventually, limiting visits. I am saddened not to be at her graveside service today, remembering attendance at Charles memorial on that same spot years ago. She was then the proverbial "pillar of strength". I will always love & remember you, dear Ruth.
