He was preceded in death by his parents, James Harry Slaughter, Sr., and Elizabeth Beatrice Slaughter and grandson, Shawn Thomas Slaughter, Jr.
Gale was a veteran of the U. S. Army and served his country in the Vietnam War. He was an iron worker with the Local #704.
He was of the Church of Christ faith.
Survivors include his children, Shawn (Victoria) Slaughter, of Ooltewah, TN, Gail (Nick) Cordell, of Harrison, TN, Lisa Shahan, of Birchwood, TN, wife of 33 years and mother of his children, Charlotte Slaughter, of Birchwood, TN, seven grandchildren, one great grandchild, two brothers, James H. Slaughter, Jr., of Chattanooga, TN, Michael Slaughter, of Birchwood, TN, and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m., Saturday in the Valley View Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Harrison Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 4:00 – 8:00 p.m., Friday at the funeral home.
