He was the son of the late Earl Loyd Varnell and Patricia Marguerite McCune Varnell. Gregory was an avid fan of the TN Vols, the Atlanta Braves and The Andy Griffith Show. He was a dedicated father, grandfather, brother and uncle. Gregory was a member of Silverdale Cumberland Presbyterian Church.
Survivors include his loving daughters, Jordan (Stan) Burch and Taylor (Jake) Patterson; grandchildren, Stryker, Blade, Delaynee, Keller and Maggie; brothers, Barry (Susan) Varnell and Phil Varnell; several nieces and nephews.
A special thank you to Hearth Hospice and the caregivers, Jackie, Meagan, Kierston and David, for their loving care they provided.
Funeral services will be held at 1 PM Monday, February 20, 2023, at the Silverdale Cumberland Presbyterian Church, 7407 Bonny Oaks Drive, Chattanooga, TN 37421, with Pastor Cliff Hudson officiating. Interment will follow at the Tyner Cemetery with Barry, Bryan, Stan, Jake, Greg Walker and Phillip serving as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be Stryker, Keller and Blade.

The family will receive friends from 3-5 PM Sunday, February 19, 2023, at Silverdale Cumberland Presbyterian Church, 7407 Bonny Oaks Drive, Chattanooga, TN 37421 and from 12 Noon until service time on Monday, February 20, 2023 at Silverdale Cumberland Presbyterian Church.
Please deliver any floral arrangements after 1:30 PM Sunday, February 19, 2023, to the Silverdale Cumberland Presbyterian Church so that there is no interference with the Church service.
