Henry “Little Henry” Brookshire Jr., 85, of Ooltewah, Tennessee, passed away peacefully on June 5, 2026, surrounded by his loved ones. Born February 23, 1941, in Chattanooga, Tennessee, Henry carried with him a steady devotion to God and family, and a work ethic that showed in the way he lived each day quietly, consistently, and with purpose. Though he will be deeply missed, his life leaves behind a bright and grateful legacy of love, service, and steadfast faith.
Henry was born to the late Henry H. Brookshire Sr. and Tressie (Maysey) Brookshire. He was also preceded in death by his parents, his 2 brothers, and 5 sisters.
A faithful servant in every sense, Henry proudly served his country in the United States Army in the Medical Corps division for nine years. He was honorably discharged in 1968 as a Staff Sergeant, E-5. After his military service, he continued to provide for those he loved through years of hard work, spending 23 years at McKee Foods as a machinist reliable, skilled, and dedicated in all he did.
In the moments away from work, Henry found joy in the things that made life rich and meaningful. He was an avid bowler and fisherman, and he especially loved fishing with his son and grandsons. He also enjoyed woodworking, making custom gifts for family and friends, thoughtful pieces that carried his care in every detail. His curiosity and devotion to learning shone brightly in his passion for studying history, especially the Civil War era. He spent countless hours metal detecting and uncovering pieces of history that had long been forgotten, and he was a member of the Chattanooga Historic Relic Society.
Above all, Henry was devoted to his family. He was their rock and hero a loving husband, daddy, papaw, and man of faith who put his family and God first. His life was one of service, faith, strength, and love, and his memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.
Henry leaves to cherish in his memory his loving wife of 63 years, Barbara Brookshire; his son, Roger Brookshire (Deanna); his daughter, Tammy Vandiver (Scott); his grandsons, Corey Brookshire (Ally), Conner Brookshire, and Tyler Vandiver; and he was awaiting his first great-granddaughter; as well as several nieces and nephews.
