Homer P. Young

Homer was born in Flat Rock, Alabama, one of 11 children to Ace and Inus Young. He worked hard on his family farm before joining the US Army to proudly serve in the Korean War. Upon his return from service, he settled into family life and was the most loving and generous father.

He worked as a mechanic for over 30 years for Vulcan Materials until his retirement. He worked second shift and would rest for a few hours but always wake to make breakfast, pack lunch, and take his daughter to school. He loved to give his wife flowers. His grandchildren adore him and he is reflected in them. He loved nothing more than time with every member of his family.

He was treasured by his family and friends. He was always willing to help anyone in need, friends and strangers alike. He was a seer of beauty and noticer of need. His heart remained full of gratitude and wonder for his time here, always curious, loving jokes and laughter, music, and always noticing the sky.

His strength and endurance were remarkable, his kindness unfailing, and generosity unparalleled, leaving a legacy that his family hope to honor in their lives.

He was preceded in death by his beloved wife Dixie and son Michael (Kathy), great grandson, Bentley and brothers, Leroy, Jim, Arnold and Olen, and sisters, Mary, Iva and Bessie.

He is survived by his loving family who meant the world to him – daughters, Janice and Jennifer (Wyatt), grandchildren, Joshua, Joey, Nick, Ben, Parker, and Sadie, great grandchildren, Michael, Alivia, Brennan, Braylee, Lily and Ivy, sister, Betty, brother, Bill, and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m., Saturday, January 22, 2022, in the Valley View Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home with Pastor Mark Habermas officiating. Burial will follow in Hanna Cemetery, Rising Fawn, GA.

The family will receive friends from 11 a.m. – 1:00 p.m., Saturday, January 22, 2022, at the funeral home.
