James Catchings, 56, of Harrison, TN, passed away Monday, August 11, 2014. A lifelong resident of the Chattanooga area, he was a Christian man who loved life, he also devoted many years as a girls softball coach. He was the son of the late Robert Catchings and Marion Akins and was also preceded in death by a brother, Robert Catchings. James was a loving father and grandfather to his family and a loyal and loving husband of 30 years to his wife Carolyn. Other survivors include his daughters, Amy, Stephanie, Jennifer and Kerri; grandchildren, Cody, Holland, Sara Moon and Heather Knox; great-grandson, Ryder; step-father, Glenn Akins; brothers and sisters, Donna and Michael McDowell, Chattanooga, David and Gay Catchings, Harrison, Pat and Glynn Creech, Murfreesboro, TN; several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday in the funeral home chapel with Minister John Cupp officiating. Interment will be in New McDonald Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 3-8 p.m. Tuesday at the Valley View Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home, Crematory & Florist, 7414 Old Lee Highway.
