Mr. Lopes and the family were very much a part of my youth. You became my second family when mine was falling apart. Whether it was playing with Linda, Ida, and Bryan, feeding me, taking me to new places, or just Mrs. Lopes chasing me around and out of the house with her shoe. Your kindness, care, and strength helped me get through the bad times and showed me how to love and help people no matter what. John Lopes always had a smile for me and showed me how a father could love his family openly and unconditionally. He gave generously to everyone he met. Rest in peace and in the arms of your Lord.

To the Lopes Family,
My memories of your dad, John and your mother go way back to when I was an early teen at the West Central Church in Oak Park, IL. Your folks became family to my mom and I. There were many happy times visiting and spending time together on Sabbath on other special days.
He was so happy each time he became a father and then a grandfather. It was a big deal!
We had hoped to see them last summer but the pandemic postponed our trip. We will need to wait until the resurrection to have our reunion. God be with Maria and all the family. We love you all.

Tom & I have shared many fun memories, D'Alva, with you & John.
How they loved to fish & our times camping together with some of our other friends. He will be missed.
You & your family are in my prayers.
Love to you, D'Alva
