John was born in Chattanooga and grew up on Signal Mountain. He retired from the US Navy as a Chief Petty Officer after 21 years of service. He was a member of the American Legion Post 95, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1289 and the National Chief Petty Officers’ Association.
John was involved with his son’s youth baseball teams through the years at East Brainerd Youth Athletic Association as a Coach/Assistant Coach. He most recently worked for Signal Industrial Products, Corp. in inside sales. He enjoyed boating on Chickamauga Lake, volunteering for the American Legions and VFWs and spending time with his family and dog, Skipper.
He was preceded in death by his father, John L. Lopez.
Surviving are his wife of 30 years, Jeannie Lopez; son, David Lopez; mother, Pauline H. Lopez; brother, Jim Lopez; sister, Betty Lopez Smithgall; and many nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 4 to 8 PM on Sunday at the Valley View Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home.
Funeral Services will be at 11 AM on Monday, March 25, 2019 at the funeral home with visitation one hour prior to the service.
Burial will follow at Chattanooga National Cemetery with full military honors.
