Linda was born in Chicago, Illinois, to the late Rene and Hilda Carlson. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Stanley Eugene “Gene” Cox; her daughter, Melissa Cox; her granddaughter, Tamara Norton; and her sister, Marjorie Carver.
Linda dedicated her career to caring for others as a registered nurse, retiring after many years of working in surgery. Her compassion and caring nature extended far beyond her profession. She cherished the simple joys of life, especially playing card games with family and friends, with Bunco being a particular favorite.
Above all, Linda’s greatest joy was the time she spent with the people she loved. She treasured her family and friends and created many wonderful memories with them that will be lovingly remembered and cherished.
Linda was a devoted member of First Lutheran Church, where she found great joy in serving her church and being part of its community. Her faith, kindness, and generous spirit touched the lives of many.
She leaves behind two loving daughters, Melanie (fiancé Ken Meyers) Salvaggio of Northglenn, Colorado, and Michelle (Scott) Bumgardner of Harrison, Tennessee; four grandchildren, Jonathan (Jessica) Norton, Lucinda (Kyle Paul) Salvaggio, Alessandra Salvaggio, and Ethan Adkins; and four great-grandchildren, Isaiah Moore, Isaac Moore, Noah Moore, and Claire Goldberg. She is also survived by her brother, Richard (Terry) Carlson of Chattanooga, Tennessee, as well as several nieces and nephews.
Linda will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her. Her warmth, laughter, faith, and love for her family will remain in their hearts and memories for years to come.
A celebration of Linda’s life will be held at 11:00 am, Saturday, September 19, 2026, at First Lutheran Church, 2800 McCallie Ave., Chattanooga, TN 37404, with Pastor Donald Welmer clergy presiding. Interment will be at Chattanooga National Cemetery.
