Mukund P Godbole

Dr. Mukund P. Godbole, 75, a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and accomplished general and peripheral vascular surgeon, passed away on August 29, 2026. His life was marked by a commitment to excellence in medicine and a deep love for his family.

Dr. Godbole began his education at The Cathedral and John Connon School in Bombay. Following one year at Elphinstone College, he continued his medical education at Topiwala Nair Hospital, where he earned his Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery degree (MBBS).

After arriving in the United States in 1973, Dr. Godbole distinguished himself with outstanding scores on his medical entrance examinations. He completed his internship at Cook County Hospital in Chicago and finished his residency in 1980, serving as chief resident during his final year. His skill and dedication were recognized with the Golden Scalpel Award.

In 1980, Dr. Godbole established his private practice in Princeton, Illinois, beginning a distinguished career in general and peripheral vascular surgery. He was affiliated with four hospitals, including Perry Memorial Hospital, and later established the vascular department in Lucedale, Mississippi. Just prior to his retirement, he served as director of the Wound Care Clinic in Princeton. He was also a member of the prestigious American College of Surgeons.

Throughout his career, Dr. Godbole brought knowledge, precision, and dedication to his work. His professional accomplishments reflected years of disciplined study and a steadfast commitment to caring for others.

Above all, Dr. Godbole loved his family. He shared 50 years and seven months of marriage with his beloved wife, Virginia Godbole. Their life together was filled with the enduring bonds of marriage, parenthood, and the joy of grandchildren.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his children, Ameet Godbole, Anjali Preston, and Adarsh Godbole and his wife, Lauren; his grandchildren, Jacob Preston, Chloe Godbole, Lillian Godbole, and Emily Godbole; his brother, Anant (Kalpana) Godbole; and three nieces.

Dr. Godbole leaves a legacy of professional achievement, dedicated service, and lasting love. He will be remembered for his contributions to medicine and, most dearly, for his place in the hearts of his family.
