

Born on June 23, 1949, in Cairo, Egypt, she was the daughter of the late Edward and Moneta Wines, who served as missionaries. She was preceded in death by her former husband, Steve Mildred.
A devoted servant through music, Muriel was a minister of music for many years. In 1971 she was a graduate of Southwestern Union College, earning a Bachelor of Music degree. She later went on to receive a Master of Music degree in church music at Concordia University. She was an accomplished mezzo-soprano singer, pianist, and organist, serving as minister of music at First Presbyterian Church in Dalton, Ga and also at Grace United Methodist in Naperville, IL. Muriel was also president of the Chattanooga Chapter of the American Guild of Organists for four years.
She will be remembered with gratitude as one who lived faithfully and was dearly beloved.
Survivors include her husband, Scott Saylor; son, Stewart Phillips (Mandy); daughter, Sarah Dietrich (James); grandchildren, Dylan, Hector, Evelina, Katelyn, and Vanessa Phillips, Luella, Edith and Hannah Dietrich; brother, Ed Wines (Cherie); sister, Mary Ann Graves (Randy) and several nieces and nephews.
A celebration of life for Muriel will be held at 11:00 am on Friday, May 15, 2026 in the Valley View Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home with Pastor Dan Palmer officiating. Burial will follow at Lee Cemetery.
