Nona, or Mrs. Wheeler as I called her, had a huge impact on my life and teaching career. As her student teacher in 1979, I learned that the classroom could be well disciplined, filled with learning and high expectations, yet fun all at the same time. I tried to emulate that throughout my 30 year career. I am so grateful to have had the privilege of learning from the best.
The tribute pictures were great! My deepest sympathies to you Jana, and all of your family, and to Sally and to all the others who loved her.
Sincerely,
Ginger Greene

We are sad to hear of Mrs. Wheeler's passing. She was a wonderful teacher! One of our favorite teachers!!! She cared for her students. Two of our sons, Kevin and Brian Givens, had her at OIS when they were in 4th grade. Kevin was in her 1st class at OIS. They started the year at Westview then in January moved to OIS. I was her homeroom mother both times the boys were in her class. She had worked extra with Brian helping him to improve his reading. We have another son, Justin, who did not have her but she knew him too. They all three graduated from Ooltewah HS. Prayers for your family during this time.
