

Norman Ray Cate Sr., age 85 ,of Chattanooga departed this earth for his “house not made by hands” on December 13, 2010. Norman was born in Chattanooga, Tennessee. He was married to Martha Ellis Cate on June 12, 1947. Norman graduated from Tyner High School in 1943. He was a veteran of World War II having served in the United States Navy. Norman was the personnel director for Dixie Yarns and Memorial Hospital. He retired from Memorial Hospital after 25 years of service. He was a member of St. John United Methodist Church and served as teacher for the Christian Friendship Class and a member of the Gideon’s International Northeast Camp.
Norman was preceded in death by his wife of 63 years, Martha Ellis Cate.
He is survived by children, Ray (Karen), Mike(Janice), Karen (Mike) Parker, and David (Melissa), sister, Carolyn Farah; seven grandchildren, two great grandchildren, several nieces and nephews. There will be no funeral home visitation. Burial will be at the Chattanooga National Cemetery with military honors on Friday, December 17th at 11 A.M. Pallbearers will be Jeff Cate, Ben Cate, Joe Wingate, John Farah, Mike Snell, Tim Patrick, Rob Pollard and Fate Lynn Thomas.
A Memorial service will be held on Friday at 7 PM at St. John United Methodist Church with Rev. Sherry Boles officiating. Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Christian Friendship Sunday School Class. The family will receive friends on Friday from 3 P.M. to 6 P.M. at the Church.
