Robbie was born on July 22, 1929 in Etowah, TN. On May 27, 1947, she married Carl McAlister. They raised 3 daughters, Ruthanna, Carla, Myra, and one son, Stanley. Robbie and Carl moved to Chattanooga in 1947 where Robbie started a career as a photo editor for Olan Mills. She was a gifted cook and flower arranger and was able to share her gifts with the community through her later career as a food service manager and wedding coordinator at First Centenary United Methodist Church. She also happily spoiled her grandchildren with her famous buttermilk pancakes and homemade apple butter. She herself had a great fondness for coffee and caramel cake.
Robbie was a talented gardener. Her house was surrounded by beautiful flowers that blossomed and thrived under her care. Additionally, she was a talented sculptor and used this gift to contribute skillfully crafted nativity sets for her church, family and friends.
Robbie had a clever sense of humor and was always ready with a smile or a big laugh. She deeply loved her family and friends and will be missed dearly by all who knew her.
Robbie was preceded in death by her husband, Carl and granddaughter, Alia. She is survived by her daughters, Carla Jaynes, Ruthanna McAlister, Myra Smith-McAlister (Matt), son, Stanley (Linda), grandchildren, Brandon, Justin (Leslie), Ellen (Erich), Ryan (Jennifer), Virginia, Jessie, and great grandchildren, Jetta Faye, Rylee, Helena, Tessa and Myra, as well as two great-great grandchildren.
