Ronnie was born in Colorado Springs, Colorado, on an Army base to William Byrd and Patricia “Pat” Byrd. He spent his life working hard, loving fiercely, and leaving an impression on just about everyone fortunate enough to know him.
Ronnie was married to his wife, Vickie (Wofford) Byrd, for 29 years. Together, they built a life and family that meant everything to him. He was a proud father of Cody Byrd and Ashlyn York.
A lifelong over-the-road truck driver, Ronnie spent countless miles behind the wheel. But trucking was only one part of who he was. He was a rodeo cowboy, a former volunteer firefighter, and a motorcycle rider who shared a deep brotherly bond with his motorcycle brothers.
Those who knew Ronnie knew exactly what kind of man he was. He was kindhearted and would quite literally give someone the shirt off his back. He was stubborn, extremely loyal, and could always be counted on to crack a joke. He loved deeply, stood by the people he cared about, and had a way of bringing laughter with him wherever he went.
Ronnie was preceded in death by his father, William Byrd; his daughter, Taylor Byrd; and his grandparents, Elmer and Lois Byrd, O. C. Belk, and Juanita Lawson.
He is survived by his loving wife of 29 years, Vickie Byrd; his children, Cody (Rayne) Byrd and Ashlyn (Todd Haney) York; his mother, Pat Byrd; his brother, Phillip (Robin) Byrd; his grandchildren, Maci, Emilio, and Izabella Byrd; as well as numerous nieces and nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews, motorcycle brothers, extended family members, and friends.
Ronnie’s life was one filled with long roads, hard work, loyalty, laughter, and love. While his journey here ended far too soon, the stories, memories, and laughter he left behind will continue to travel with everyone who loved him.
The family will receive friends on Friday, September 18, 2026, from 4:00 to 8:00 pm, at the Valley View Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home.
