Sheila Elaine Tanner was born in Boston, Massachusetts in 1955. She graduated from Bearden High School in Knoxville, TN, and went on to earn her LPN nursing credentials, then fulfilled her lifetime of nursing care with beginnings at Fort Sanders and Park West Hospitals. Her later 25+ years in nursing were spent at Nephrology Associates in Chattanooga, TN working hand-in-hand with the kidney transplant pre- and post-operative nephrologist team managing their patient’s specialized daily medical care.
Sheila was always a prim & proper person, putting others before herself. In her 20s, she enjoyed hiking in the Great Smokies, always boasting of her many trips up the backway of the chimneys. She just loved the beach, which stemmed from her childhood and teenage years growing up in Ormond Beach, FL. Like her mom, Hilton Head was her favorite place to go. At home, she enjoyed many years of spending time with her beautiful and loving cat, Tabby Jean.
Her love of music ranged from Cat Stevens & Coldplay to U2, with her latest infatuation with Teddy Swims, all in her LP collection. Her greatest joy was dining out with her husband, always bonding with her servers, treating them with deserved respect. Her generous gratuities were legendary.
She was so very proud of herself, her hard work, in completing the difficult two-week Siskin in-patient rehab program just recently.
Above all, Sheila loved her family. She shared, going on 40 years now, of marriage with her husband, David Tanner. Their life together was filled with the enduring bonds of marriage through both the good and bad times.
In addition to her husband, David Tanner, she is survived by her son Paul McGee, his wife Trish and her son Max. Along with her two sisters JoAnn Doty (Steve) and Susan Lee (John).
Sheila leaves a life impact of kindness to others, dedicated service, and lasting love. She will be remembered for her nursing care and, most dearly, for her place in the hearts of her family.
