A native of Chattanooga, she worked at Combustion and at her home keeping records for her husband’s building contractor's service. She was the Valedictorian of her graduation class of 1941 at Tyner High School. Mrs. Burris was a 50 plus year member of the Sunnyside #359 Eastern Star and a member of Greenwood Baptist Church. She enjoyed her family, friends, sewing, quilting, and her animals.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 47 years, Edward Ervin Burris; parents, Austin and Lena Combs; sisters, Rosa Mae Scott and Mildred Combs; brothers, Ioles “Son”, Thelmer “Crick”, and Truman Combs; and great-great grandson, Haiden Lee.
She is survived by many loved ones. Daughters and sons-in-laws, Betty and Alvin Lee; Marilyn and Ray Hindman all of Cleveland; Kathy and Michael Bowman and son and daughter-in-law, Edward L. and Pam Burris all of Ooltewah; Grandchildren: Jamie (Donna) Lee, Angie (Pee Wee) Neely, Susan (Jeff) Widener, Ashley (Michael) Broome, Eddie Burris, Emily Burris, Justin Hulgan. Great-grandchildren: Beth Lee and Christy (Zach) Hullender, Katie Neely, Colton Widener, Annsley Widener, Makayla Broome, and Tucker Broome. Great-great grandchildren: Bryson and Rayna Hullender. Brother-in-law, Texas “Homer” Burris, sister-in-law, Otsa Isabell.
The funeral will be on Friday at 2:30 pm in the Valley View Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home with Revs. James Vaughn and Toby Brogden officiating. Burial will follow at Greenwood Cemetery.
The family will receive friends Thursday 4 pm to 8 pm and Friday 1:30 pm to 2:30 pm at the funeral home.
Pallbearers are Jamie Lee, Pee Wee Neely, Jeff Widener, Michael Broome, Wayne Combs, and Les Fansler. Honorary Pallbearers: Men of Mission My Town of Greenwood Baptist Church.
In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to the Tennessee Library for the Blind.
