Amparo O. Dominguez

Amparo Ortega Dominguez, wife, mother, grandmother, friend to many, passed away peacefully at home on March 04, 2026. Amparo was born in Aguascalientes, Mexico, in 1936 to Juan Ortega and Maria de Jesus (Rivera).

Amparo was a hard worker all her life, as a teen she worked in a cinema, moving on as a young woman to a bank in Sonora, and back to Aguascalientes as a secretary at a vineyard. During this time she would meet her husband, Rafael, at a wedding. They were married for 61 wonderful years, setting an example of marriage as deep friendship and unconditional love. She started her family and eventually relocated to Chicago, Illinois where she worked at Brach’s Candy until her retirement, when she was promoted to full-time grandmother. In 2014 she battled breast cancer with grit, grace, and a fabulous wig.

Amparo loved her family and was a generous and loving matriarchal figure to many. She was a woman of many interests and talents, from studying fashion and hairdressing, to singing and dancing at family parties, to drawing elaborate doodles on the corners of notepads, bills, etc. She was renowned for her cooking, having taught herself as a young mother. She was a connector and a people person, gathering friends across her life and keeping distant family close, and could often be found throughout the day on her phone, calling relatives and posting on Facebook. She was full of strength, humor, and life.

Amparo is preceded by her husband Rafael Humberto and survived by her children and grandchildren. Beloved mother of Amparo “Amy” (Don), Rafael H. Jr (Lincy), Gilberto (Laura) and Ana (Carlos) and adoring “Wita” to Evan (Sarah), Lexi, Maya and Jacob. She will be remembered fondly by all so fortunate to know and love her.

Amparo Ortega Dominguez, esposa, madre, abuela y amiga de muchos, falleció en casa en paz, el 4 de marzo de 2026. Amparo nació en Aguascalientes, México, en 1936, hija de Juan Ortega y María de Jesús (Rivera). Fue una mujer trabajadora durante toda su vida; en su adolescencia trabajó en un cine, luego de joven en un banco en Sonora, y regresó a Aguascalientes para desempeñarse como secretaria en un viñedo. Fue durante ese tiempo cuando conoció a su esposo, Rafael, en una boda. Estuvieron casados por 61 maravillosos años, dejando un ejemplo de matrimonio basado en una profunda amistad y amor incondicional. Formó su familia y eventualmente se mudó a Chicago, Illinois, donde trabajó en Brach's Candy hasta su jubilación, momento en el que fue "ascendida" a abuela de tiempo completo. En 2014, luchó contra el cáncer de mama con valentía, elegancia y siempre con una peluca fabulosa.

Amparo amaba a su familia y fue una figura matriarcal generosa y cariñosa para muchos. Era una mujer de muchos intereses y talentos: desde estudiar moda y peluquería, hasta cantar y bailar en las fiestas familiares, y elaborar dibujos en las esquinas de sus libretas y cualquier papel . Era famosa por su cocina, un arte que aprendió por sí misma cuando era una madre joven. Tenía el don de conectar a la gente; siempre haciendo amigos a lo largo de su vida y manteniendo cerca a los familiares lejanos. A menudo se le podía encontrar durante el día pegada al teléfono, llamando a sus parientes o publicando en Facebook. Estaba llena de fortaleza, humor y vida.

A Amparo le precedió en la muerte su esposo Rafael Humberto. Le sobreviven sus hijos y nietos. Madre amada de Amparo “Amy” (Don), Rafael H. Jr. (Lincy), Gilberto (Laura) y Ana (Carlos); y “Wita” adorada de Evan (Sarah), Lexi, Maya y Jacob. Será recordada con inmenso cariño por todos aquellos que tuvieron la fortuna de conocerla y amarla.

El velatorio de Amparo tendrá lugar el domingo 8 de marzo de 2026, de 16:00 a 20:00 h, en la Funeraria Ridge, ubicada en 6620 West Archer Ave, Chicago, IL 60638.
