Dennis Peter Carney Sr.

Born and raised in Chicago, Dennis proudly served his country in the United States Army before building a career as an Engineer. While he took great pride in his work, nothing compared to the pride he felt for his family.

Dennis was, above all else, a devoted father, grandfather, and friend. His life revolved around the people he loved most. His children and grandchildren were his greatest accomplishment and the greatest joy of his life. He celebrated their successes, encouraged them through life’s challenges, and never missed an opportunity to tell them how proud he was of them. To hear the voices of his children and grandchildren was one of life’s greatest gifts, and nothing brought a bigger smile to his face than spending time with the family he loved so deeply. Whether it was a phone call, a family gathering, or simply knowing everyone was doing well, his heart was fullest when his family was together. They were his purpose, his pride, and the center of his world.

Those who knew Dennis will remember his gentle spirit and the kindness he showed to everyone he met. He had a remarkable gift for making people feel welcomed, valued, and understood. He was endlessly patient, compassionate, and selfless, always putting the needs of others before his own. He never sought recognition for his generosity because helping others simply came naturally to him. He met life’s challenges with optimism, grace, and quiet strength, choosing to see the good in people and the positive side of every situation. His warm smile, calm demeanor, and genuine interest in others made everyone feel important. He was the kind of person who made the world a little brighter simply by being in it.

Dennis found joy in life’s simple pleasures. He loved working in his garden, fixing anything that needed repair, sitting in the sunshine, solving puzzles, and, above all, spending precious time with his family. His greatest happiness wasn’t found in what he did—it was found in who he loved.

Dennis is lovingly survived by his daughter, Jennifer Sample (née Carney) and her husband, David, and their sons, Asher and Pierce; his son, Dennis Carney Jr. and his wife, Varsha; and his son, Jason Carney and his wife, Maryam, and their son, Darius. He also leaves behind many extended family members and dear friends who will forever cherish his memory.

Dennis leaves behind a family who will forever be grateful for his unconditional love, unwavering encouragement, and gentle example. He taught those around him that kindness is a strength, patience is a gift, and love is something to be given freely every day. Though our hearts are broken, we take comfort in knowing that the love he poured into his children and grandchildren will continue through them for generations to come.

Dad/Papa thank you for loving us so completely, believing in us so wholeheartedly, and showing us every day what it means to live with compassion, humility, and grace. We will miss hearing your voice, seeing your smile, and feeling the warmth of your presence. We will carry your love with us always, and we will make you proud, just as you always made us feel so deeply loved.

Dennis will be deeply missed, forever loved, and never forgotten.
