Dianna was known by many as a dear friend, but to her family she was known as “Nana”. She was someone who always did whatever she could for her family, whether it was helping to plan a party or cooking some of our favorite meals. She loved her grandchildren with everything she had, even going as far as getting them a pool so that they could enjoy their summer days. She thrived on family gatherings, making sure there was enough food and double checking that everyone had enough to eat that day. You could always find her in the kitchen making something, either a family favorite or creating a new recipe for our family to love. Even through a global pandemic, she would cook enough food for every family household and have it delivered to each of us on Sundays, which only speaks to how much she truly loved and cherished her family.
Dianna worked at Ryerson Steel for 25 years, up until she retired. Following her retirement she proceeded to seek out a summer house in the state of Florida, where she could finally purchase and design her dream home. She eventually chose a house in Kissimmee, Florida and poured her time and energy into modeling the home of her dreams. After some time, the house became a home, with family trips every year, filling the home with memories that this family will cherish forever. Now, there will always be a piece of her that we can revisit and remember her by in that house.
If there was one thing she loved to do more than cooking for her family, it was talking. She would call her family every day, just to see what we were up to. If she was out somewhere in public, she could strike up a conversation with anyone, whether it be a waiter at a restaurant or a salesmen she was trying to buy something from. She loved to call her close friends and catch up with them and see how they were doing. She loved calling each family household and seeing what was going on, whether it was updates on life, work, or just to see if any fruit grew in someone’s garden. We will always remember and cherish those phone calls and Face-times with her.
In her final years, Dianna had to undergo a simultaneous heart and kidney transplant. The operation was a success, but she knew there was a long road ahead. She was resilient and fought to the very end. From multiple hospital stays, to undergoing physical therapy, she showed her strength and power in her fight towards recovery. While she left us too soon, we will always remember her as a strong, loving, and thoughtful woman who put her family above all else. She has left her mark on this world and her memory will continue to live on through the love and care she gave to us all. May she Rest in Peace.
