Wife of the late John Sanchez; cherished mother of John Joseph Sanchez, Mary Ellen Sanchez, Annette (Hank) Sanchez; loving grandmother of Rebecca (Stephanie) Long and Michael (Natalie) Robbins; dearest daughter of the late Carlos and the late Leandra (nee Navarro) Gallardo; dear sister of Jeanne Granat, Fran Granat, the late Carlos (Jean) Gallardo, and the late Mercedes (late Oscar) Barajas; Adoring great-grandmother of Sean, Ryan, Evan, Annie Robbins and Graciella Long. She is survived and loved by many Sanchez, Gallardo, Granat, and Herrera nieces and nephews, loving Godchildren and many children she guided through education and the arts. She cherished the love and friendship of members of the Mary McDowell Settlement and her sister Guadalupanas at Immaculate Heart of Mary parish. Lucia graduated from Gage Park High School and Pestalozzi-Froebel Teachers College (now National-Louis University). She taught Nursery School at the Settlement House, taught several grades at St Rose of Lima and St Joseph in the Back of the Yards neighborhood. She was an ardent supporter of Goodman Theatre and many Chicago dance companies, and enjoyed travel, exploring countries from Europe to Australia.
Visitation for Lucia, will be on Tuesday, September 26th, 2023 from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM., at Ridge Funeral Home, (Edward A. Tylka, Manager), 6620 West Archer Ave, Chicago, IL 60638. Family and friends will gather for a Celebration of Mass on Wednesday, September 27th, 2023 at 9:30 AM at St Christina Church, 3342 West 111th Street, 60655, followed by a procession, for prayers, to St. Mary Catholic Cemetery, 87th & Hamlin, Evergreen Park, Illinois.
