Mario D. Núñez Sr., 72, of Chicago, IL, passed away on June 17, 2025. Born on March 24, 1953 in Mexico City, moved to his beloved town of Yuriria, GTO at a very young age, he was a devoted husband to Alicia Nunez and a loving father to Mario Jr. (Nuno) and Alicia (Nena).
Dad was hard-working and dedicated. He spent several years working at Metra where he worked various positions. Despite his many responsibilities, he always made time for his family.
Though Dad may not have liked being the center of attention, he deserves to have his long years of fatherly love honored. He was a man of integrity, kindness, generosity and lots of happiness and he left a lasting impact on everyone who knew him.
Dad's hobbies and interests helped define who he was. He enjoyed playing music as loud as he possibly could and spending time with his family. He was dedicated to his grandchildren, whom he loved with all his heart. His love for all the family pets was unmatched, always making sure they were well fed and taken care of. Cooking a big pot of menudo or caldo de pescado for us was his favorite, but also making sure he had an extra dish for those of us that didn’t like what was on the menu for the day. Family time was something he shared with his children and grandchildren leaving a mark on us that will never fade.
He is survived by his wife Alicia Nunez, his children Mario Jr. (Lily), and Alicia (Enrique), his grandchildren Sofia Ixtali, Mario III, and Itzel Aurora, his siblings Ruben, Francisco, Olivia, Marta and Guillermina as well as many nieces and nephews who will miss him dearly.
Proceeded in death by his parents, the late Francisco and Teresa Nunez, his late brothers Armando and Eduardo Nunez and late sister Teresa Chavez.
Visitation for Mario will be on Wednesday, June 25, 2025 from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Ridge Funeral Home, 6620 West Archer Ave, Chicago, IL 60638. For information call 773-586-7900 or visit www.ridgefh.com.
We find comfort in knowing that Dad's legacy lives on through the lessons he taught us, the love he shared, and the memories we will cherish forever.
Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.ridgefh.com for the Nunez family.
