Born on February 20, 1983, in Chicago, Illinois, Miguel was the beloved son of Romualdo and Socorro Garcia. He was raised in Pilsen, surrounded by family, culture, and community — roots that shaped the loyal and loving man he became.
Miguel dedicated 21 years of his life to being a mechanic, a craft he took pride in and truly loved. After attending Universal Technical Institute (UTI), he built a long and respected career in the field, eventually becoming a Level 7 Pouching Mechanic at Pepsi. He was known for his strong work ethic, skill, and dependability — the kind of man who showed up and got the job done.
Miguel was a protective father, goofy at heart, and forever a kid when it came to having fun. He loved taking his children to the arcade, to monster truck shows, or anywhere that meant making memories. He never missed a chance to talk about Dominic and Roselyn — they were his greatest pride.
He had a deep love for cars, especially his 1986 Chevy Caprice Classic. He also enjoyed 90s rap, cheering on the Chicago Cubs, and quoting his favorite phrases like “Jueges” and “Qweek sácalas,” words that will forever echo in the hearts of those who knew him.
Beyond being a devoted father, Miguel was an unforgettable big brother and an incredible uncle. He was the family jokester and ultimate roughhouser. He teased, he played, and sometimes drove his siblings crazy — but they always felt the love behind it. He was protective, present, and always there.
Miguel shared deep, lifelong bonds with his extended family. He grew up alongside his uncle, Ramiro Lavin, in Pilsen — a relationship that felt more like brothers than uncle and nephew. Ramiro was like a big brother to Miguel, and throughout his life remained closely connected to him. In turn, Ramiro always saw Miguel as his younger brother — a bond rooted in love, loyalty, and shared history.
He also shared an almost sibling-like bond with his cousin, Guillermo Reyes. Their relationship was built on loyalty, laughter, and years of shared memories — a connection that went far beyond cousins.
Although his nephews’ time with him was cut far too short, in the little time they shared, they felt his love deeply. They always looked forward to going to “Mike’s house,” where they could run around, laugh, and play with what felt like no rules — just fun, freedom, and love. Those memories will stay with them forever.
Miguel had a very close and special relationship with his grandmother, Agustina Martínez Lavin, whose love and presence shaped him deeply. He is also reunited in rest with his maternal grandparents, Fortuna and Alejandro Figueroa.
Miguel is survived by his cherished children, Dominic Garcia and Roselyn Garcia; his parents, Romualdo and Socorro Garcia; his siblings, Gabriela Almazan (Alejandro R Almazan) and Jaime Garcia (Javier Mena); his former wife, Carolina Garcia, with whom he maintained a close friendship and dedicated co-parenting relationship; his loving partner, Carmen Alcaraz; his uncle, Ramiro Lavin; his cousin, Guillermo Reyes; and many extended family members and friends who will carry his memory forward.
Miguel will be remembered for his loyalty, his humor, his protective heart, and the way he showed up for the people he loved.
