A lifelong Chicagoan, Robert built a life defined by steady devotion, quiet sacrifice, and the kind of hard work that asks for no attention yet provides for many. He gave his days faithfully to others—most notably through 32 years of service with the Department of Water Reclamation for the City of Chicago—earning respect through reliability, perseverance, and an unwavering sense of responsibility.
Robert was preceded in death by his beloved wife, the late Diana F. Starr, whom he married on August 8, 1964. Together they built a family rooted in love and commitment. He is survived by his children: Donna (Don) Witte, Robert (Ellen) Starr, Richard Starr, Bonnie Starr, Carolyn (Neil) Costello, Charles Starr, Melody Starr, and Wendy Starr; and by his grandchildren: Daniel Witte, Christopher Starr, Jocelyn Starr, Kirsten Starr, Charles Starr, and Dakota Starr.
In his personal life, Robert’s priorities were clear: family came first. His steadfast dedication showed not in grand gestures, but in the consistent, selfless ways he cared for those around him. He also found enjoyment in simple pleasures—time at the poker table, visits to the casino, and the patient, attentive hobby of breeding fish, pursuits that reflected his focus and persistence.
Robert’s strong Catholic faith was a guiding presence throughout his life, offering strength, purpose, and a steady foundation for the values he lived each day. His legacy is one of devotion—faithfully lived, generously given, and deeply felt by those who had the privilege to know him.
