

He started his career in the ink business as a lab clerk and he worked his way up to being an ink lab chemist and dye matcher. He enjoyed reading, learning, and participated in numerous college courses. He served honorably in Korea, as a Sergeant, in the Marine Corp from 1952 to1954. His life passion for life grew as he found his sobriety and was proud of his work volunteering at Hines VA, in their Alcohol and Substance Abuse Program, as a dedicated counselor for 25 years and over 25,000 hours.
Ronald married the late Larraine (Diviero) Johnson and he’s the caring father of Robert Johnson, Rodney and (Barbara) Johnson, Karen (David) Wiencek, and Cheryl Johnson. Proud grandfather of Joshua Wiencek, Timothy (Lisa) Wiencek, Andrew (Janyne), Benjamin (Kayle) and Christopher Johnson. Great- grandfather of Luna Wiencek. Uncle to many nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews. He later married the late Catherine (Kampfera). He was a supportive and dedicated life long friend to his “significant other” the late Christine Landen. He found more years of joy, companionship and traveling with the late Marge McCole. He is survived by his dear sister Joyce Commiso.
Ron was raised on the west side of Chicago and he spent summers playing basketball, watching the Cubs, playing baseball and later in life was part of his local bowling league. He was a man of many hobbies and interests, including photography, theatre, visiting museums, handicapping the horses, baking bread, staying in touch with family, friends and taking time to volunteer at the food pantry or to help others in need. In his later years he loved traveling, music, and the opportunity to be part of Honor Flight.
Ronald’s life will be remembered for his faith in the Higher Power, meals shared, making time for family, his commitment to his friends, and his service to his country. His legacy and warm spirit will live on in the hearts of the people who knew him.
