Stanley Podlasek (Stas), 95, was reunited with the love of his life on November 4, 2022. His beloved wife of 68 years, Florence (Lola) Podlasek, died in 2019. Stan was born in 1927 in Chicago and attended Tilden Tech high school and later the Illinois Barber College. Stan worked at the family business, Podlasek’s Tavern (later known as Illinois Bar and Grill) on 47th and Kedvale, prior to opening Stan’s Barbershop in December of 1965. He was a well-known and beloved member of the Garfield Ridge community. He retired in 2017 after 52 years in business. Stan was an avid gardener, and everyone knew spring was here when they saw tomato plants in the shop window. He loved to bowl, golf, and play checkers with his kids and grandkids, and would always challenge his family to just one more game of pinochle. Stan was always there to offer help and guidance, was generous with his time and heart, and was truly kind. He always had a smile, and simply wanted to brighten people’s lives, and that he surely did. He will be sorely missed by everyone who knew him.
He was preceded in death by his wife Lola. His greatest joy was being a dad to children Stanley (Rebecca) Podlasek Jr., Donna (Edwin) Borowiak, Lynn (John) Larsen, Susan Sula, and Carol (Kenneth Luurs) Podlasek. He found hope in the future with grandchildren James (Kelly) Sula, Josephine (Arturo) Vera, Stanley Podlasek III, Kimberly (Paul) Granholm, Brooke Borowiak, Angela (Jonathan Clarke) Podlasek, and Dawn Larsen. Loving great grandchildren Wolfgang Sula, Jubilee Vera, Hunter Sula, Ezekiel Vera, Stone Sula, Vincenzo Vera, and Gavin Granholm. Loving son of the late Franciszek Podlasek and Stephania Krawiec, brother of the late Edward (Helene) Podlasek and Uncle Stas to many who surely all have a story to tell. He died peacefully in Christ.
