Born on August 19, 1922, in Naugatuck, Connecticut to Lithuanian immigrants, Albina’s life adventures began when she enlisted with the WAVES during WWII. She met her endearing husband of 74 years, John Robert Hunter, who served as a pilot in the US Navy. Married in Florida on June 11, 1945, they both attended Purdue University. The blessed couple lived in Connecticut, Buffalo and Seattle, settling in San Diego in 1957. Albina and JR made their home in San Marcos for the last 40 years, just recently moving to South Park to be closer to family.
Albina was preceded in death by her parents Mathilda Suzanne Shopis and Joseph Casimer Gelezunas and brothers Vincent and Clement.
She was the beloved mother of Susan (Jeff), Brian (Sharon), Tracy (Larry) and Ross (Mara), proud Nana of Cris, Damian, Skyla, John, Kasia and Riana and GG Nana of great-granddaughters, Erica, Toria, Alex, Harlow and a baby girl on the way.
Albina lived a full life as a wonderful wife, mother, homemaker and volunteer.
Our strong, sparky, fashion forward and fiercely independent Nana insisted on keeping busy and continually learning new things. She loved to travel, read, garden, quilt, kept an immaculate house, and enjoyed taking classes of all types. Most of all, she loved keeping in touch with her family and being true to her faith. She will be dearly missed and forever in our hearts.
Funeral Services will be held on October 25, 2019, at 11:00 AM at St. Mark’s Roman Catholic Church with a celebration of life immediately following.
